This year (2016), Mavic Aksium family of wheels see a wider rim to accommodate tires up to 32mm wide and also for increased air volume, while the straight-pull spokes provide the overall build with strength and stiffness. This provides for a more comfortable ride all the while keeping the rolling resistance low.
Also new to the Aksium family is the disc model you see before you. For the most part it shares the same DNA as its rim brake equivalent, with the exception of an increased number of spokes from 20 to 24 to handle the higher brake torque from the hub to the rim.
